Light pollution is the bain of this project. This lighthouse sits in Portland Harbor and is accessible via a city park. Its proximity to the downtown is detrimental to capturing many stars because of a huge amount of ambient light coming from across the harbor. I'd surveyed the area during the day but that only teaches one about the lay of the land. Discovering what the area looks like in the dark can only happen at night. There was no sign of obvious floodlights on the park grounds and the lights coming from over a half-mile away were glaring. I added two dimmed LED lights as well brushing the bricks with light from a flashlight.
