West Quoddy
Porcupines. Never before had I ever seen one in the wild but now I was being warned about straying too close to them in the dark of night. A family of the critters lives on the grounds of the West Quoddy light at the easternmost point the the contiguous USA. I drove the entire day from RI to Maine to reach the spot and met the lighthouse association vice president who gave a tour at dusk before he went home for the night. That left me with the quiet of the lighthouse under the beautiful stars in the accompaniment of the porcupines, another adventure in the books.
