While doing research for this lighthouse I discovered it's on the privately owned Naushon Island that is part of the Elizabethan Chain near Martha's Vineyard. I tracked down the owners and gained permission to visit. That was the easy part, getting to the island took a much larger effort. In a conversation with my Coast Guard command staff friends I mentioned that we were planning to motor to the island which was a long two hour boat ride out of my home port in Rhode Island. The CG suggested they give my team a lift from their Woods Hole dock which is a mere 10 minute ride. We were dropped off on the beach and while the CG had a training session, we spent the time capturing the lighthouse and shooting stars. It was the tail end of the Perseid Meteor showers and many of the images had nice shooting stars cutting through. The CG picked us up on the beach once we were done shooting and after they'd finished their training. It was a wonderful evening with many thanks to the Woods Hole team.
