Plum Beach Lighthouse

Plum Beach Lighthouse

This shot was taken while out at the lighthouse on Narragansett Bay near the Jamestown Bridge in North Kingstown. The lights that shine on the tower were turned off for better photographic control. While the shutter was open I "light-painted" the tower with an LED flashlight. The key with this shot was finding the sweet exposure spot between the bridge lights, the stars, and the tower. I was pleasantly surprised to see a slight hint of the Milky Way in the sky above the bridge. I'd never captured it before, and while shooting this series over the course of a week in the summer of 2014, I captured it four times in four nights shooting. This isn't Arizona or New Mexico with brilliant clear night skies, this is Rhode Island with an abundance of light pollution.
