The North Dumpling lighthouse sits on an island bluff between Fisher's Island, NY and the Connecticut shore near Groton. It is privately owned by inventor Dean Kamen though the beacon is still maintained by the Coast Guard. I was surprised that the light was on top of the lighthouse, a bit unusual though it was moved in the 80s to its new location. The property was renovated that same decade and Kamen took ownership after the previous owner went bankrupt. One can visit it only by invitation, and I'd contacted Kamen about this collection and he allowed me to shoot on the island. I placed a dimmed LED light at the bottom of the hill just out of the right of the frame and then lit the grass and some of the house with a flashlight. The Milky Way made a great mid-summer showing and was clearly seen by the naked eye. It was warm and calm on this night, a perfect evening for Stars and Lights.
