Saugerties Path
By all accounts, the winter of 2015-16 was one of the mildest ever on record, but I chose to photograph the Saugerties Lighthouse on a night when the temperature dropped to 12°. I really don't mind the cold, in fact I relish in it. For this shot I placed a dimmed LED battery-powered light on a stand about a hundred feet directly in front of the building, then lit the reeds while standing on the Hudson River ice to the left of the frame. The lighthouse is occupied by the caretaker, one of the few throughout this series that is still inhabited.
