Fire Island Portrait
Fire Island Built in 1826, the lighthouse is on a barrier island south of Long Island, New York and legend has it the name originally came from being called “fear” island but over time morphed into “fire” island. We arrived after sunset to the grounds that are beautifully maintained by the National Parks Service as clouds overtook the area. I at first was disappointed but continued on with the planned shoot and adjusted the camera to freeze the sweeping beams of light. The clouds actually helped with the exposure as ambient light from New York City reflected off them creating a nice background. Had there been a clear sky I would have had to lengthen the exposure to capture the stars instead of the beam making for a number of beautiful images.
