This photo was taken during a repeat visit to Stratford Point. I'd been there a few weeks prior and captured a dramatic picture of the lighthouse in fog, but it was counter to the project. I knew I had to return, and on this night the conditions were perfect for stars. This property is the home of the Coast Guard commander for New Haven and he'd twice given permission to be on the property and on this visit I shot the lighthouse from every angle. This is from the Long Island Sound side and was lit with a battery-powered LED light on a stand about 150 feet away from the home. It was dimmed to its lowest setting and with a 25-second camera exposure it was plenty of light. I aligned the very bright flag spotlight with the flagpole to hide the glare from the lens, hence the strong shadow on the grass.
